Abdominal Strain

Abdominal strain paisn may be due to a stomach muscle strain sustained while lifting or more commonly, as an overuse injury associated with excessive abdominal contractions (sit-ups). A muscle strain refers to a tear within the muscle. Usually the muscle is forcibly stretched beyond its limits and the muscle tissue becomes torn.

The immediate management of an abdominal strain involves rest and ice. Osteopathic treatment consists of correction of the soft tisse (muscle and tendon) damage and a gradual strengthening programme. Full rehabiliation can take up to 12 weeks in severe cases.
